Army Issues Warning As Gunfire Set To Begin In Jigawa, Residents Told Not To Panic

Share f X W in

The Nigerian Army has alerted residents of Birnin Kudu in Jigawa State and nearby communities to remain calm ahead of a scheduled military exercise expected to involve gunfire in the area.

The notice was issued by the Garrison Commander of the 26 Armoured Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel PJ Miri Dashe, in a statement released on Saturday.

According to the Army, the training exercise will take place from Monday, March 30 to Wednesday, April 1, at the Police Shooting Range in Birnin Kudu.

Authorities explained that residents may hear sounds of gunfire during the period, stressing that it is part of a planned routine exercise and not a security threat.

The Army advised members of the public to avoid the shooting range and surrounding areas throughout the duration of the exercise to ensure their safety.

The statement also noted that such drills are necessary to improve the operational readiness of troops, enhance their weapons handling skills, and prepare them for real security situations.

Residents were encouraged to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies, as the exercise is aimed at strengthening the ability of the military to protect lives and property.
