Lady Cries Out As Brother Arrested At 14 Remains In Custody Since 2023

A Nigerian lady has appealed for public assistance over the continued detention of her younger brother, who she said was arrested during a police raid in 2023 at the age of 14.

According to her, the family initially believed the teenager was missing before later discovering he had been taken into custody alongside several others during the operation.

She explained that while others arrested during the raid were eventually released, her brother allegedly remained in detention and was later transferred to the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre in Mile 2.

The woman claimed that a police officer reportedly informed the court that the teenager committed no offence, yet the matter has continued to suffer repeated adjournments since 2023.

She further alleged that the family was asked to provide ₦150,000 for bail but has been unable to raise the amount due to financial difficulties.

According to her, the boy was still a minor when the incident happened and is now approaching the age of 17.

The case has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern about prolonged detention, access to justice, and the treatment of minors within the criminal justice system.

Some social media users have also called on human rights groups and legal aid organisations to intervene in the matter.
