FG Begins Evacuation of Nigerians From Iran as Middle East Tensions Escalate

Share f X W in

The Federal Government has started evacuating Nigerians stranded in Iran following the rising conflict in the Middle East.

The evacuation is being coordinated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, with officials escorting citizens across the Iranian border into Armenia for safety.

Embassy Officials Leading Evacuation

Chairman of the commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the development in a statement shared on her social media page.

She said officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are working to ensure safe passage for Nigerians who wish to leave the country.

According to her, evacuees are being guided to the Armenian border where embassy staff are on ground to receive them.

“Willing Nigerians are being escorted across the Armenian border by officials of the Nigerian embassy in Iran for safe passage. No Nigerian in Iran has been affected so far,” she said.

Evacuation Follows Rising Iran Conflict

The situation in the region worsened after military strikes on Iran involving the United States Armed Forces and the Israel Defense Forces, which triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks.

The crisis has raised fears of a wider regional war, forcing several countries to begin evacuating their citizens.

Government Assures Nigerians Of Safety

Dabiri-Erewa said no Nigerian has been reported injured since the crisis began, but the government decided to act early to avoid danger.

She added that embassy officials will remain at the border to help more Nigerians who may decide to leave Iran as the situation develops.

Authorities have advised Nigerians in the region to stay in contact with the embassy and follow safety instructions.
