Former Super Eagles head coach Festus Adegboye Onigbinde has died at the age of 88, according to a statement released by his family on Monday.

The family described him as a respected football figure, community leader, and devoted family man whose contributions to Nigerian football will not be forgotten.

Family Confirms Death

In the statement, the family expressed gratitude for his life and legacy, describing him as the first indigenous Nigerian coach of the Super Eagles and a man who served the country with dedication.

“With great gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of this great man, High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde,” the statement read.

They also prayed for the peaceful rest of his soul and thanked Nigerians for the support shown to the family.

Onigbinde was one of the most respected coaches in Nigerian football history.

He led the Super Eagles at different periods and was known for giving opportunities to home based players.
