Kwankwaso Dumps NNPP, Signals Major Political Move Ahead Of Next Elections

Share f X W in

Former Kano State Governor and Senator, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political space.

Kwankwaso disclosed this in a statement dated March 29, 2026, confirming that his exit from the party takes immediate effect.

The former presidential candidate said his decision was driven by the need for strategic political alignment in response to ongoing changes within the country’s political environment.

He described the move as difficult, noting that he had served the party as its National Leader and represented it in the 2023 presidential election.

Kwankwaso, however, explained that the current direction of national politics requires a new platform that can better support his vision for national development and reform.

According to him, aligning with another political structure would provide a stronger opportunity to pursue meaningful change in the country.

His resignation is expected to trigger fresh political discussions, especially as stakeholders begin to assess its impact on party dynamics and future elections.

As of the time of this report, Kwankwaso has not officially announced the political platform he intends to join next.
