Share f X W in

The Nigerian Navy has announced the dismissal of one of its personnel after he was found guilty of desertion from service.

In a statement released on Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Navy identified the dismissed rating as Bello, with service number MX14540.

According to the statement, the personnel was absent from duty without official leave for 1,346 days.

The Navy said the prolonged unauthorised absence amounted to desertion under military regulations.

Authorities confirmed that disciplinary action had been concluded, leading to his dismissal from service.

The Nigerian Navy also warned members of the public that Bello is no longer a serving naval officer.

It added that anyone dealing with him as though he is still an active member of the Navy does so at their own risk.

Military desertion is regarded as a serious offence under armed forces regulations and can attract severe sanctions depending on the circumstances.

The announcement has generated reactions online, with many Nigerians discussing discipline and accountability within the armed forces.
