Oyo Police Deny Reports Of Igbope Kidnap Victims’ Release

Share f X W in

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that two victims abducted in Igbope have regained their freedom, insisting that both individuals remain in captivity.

The clarification follows widespread social media reports suggesting that the victims were released after an ultimatum allegedly issued by Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho to suspected kidnappers.

The victims, identified as Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son, were reportedly abducted on June 16, 2026.

Rumours circulating online on Sunday claimed that the pair had been freed following intervention linked to Sunday Igboho.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, described the reports as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the command stated that there was no truth to claims made in videos and online posts suggesting the victims had been rescued.

“The Oyo State Police Command has taken notice of a video and related online contents alleging that the victims abducted at Igbope on 16th June, 2026, namely Mrs Kuburat Omowumi and her son, have been rescued.

“The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the claim contained in the circulated video is false, unfounded, and misleading,” the statement said.

The police assured residents that security agencies are actively working to secure the release of the victims and bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.

The command also urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information and to rely on official updates from security agencies regarding ongoing operations.

Authorities maintained that efforts to rescue the kidnapped mother and son remain ongoing and appealed for public cooperation as investigations continue.
