Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has revealed that the ongoing facelift of the FCT City Gate was conceived by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

Wike made the disclosure on Monday during an inspection tour of major infrastructure projects across Abuja ahead of their planned inauguration in June to mark the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The projects inspected include:

• Renewed Hope City Access Road in Karsana District
• Rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road
• FCT Highway 105 linking Airport Road to Kuje
• Kuje to Gwagwalada Road Phase 1
• Remodeling of the FCT City Gate

The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the various project sites, describing the developments as evidence of governance and infrastructural progress under the current administration.

According to Wike, the 17-kilometre Old Keffi Road project stretching from Kado Village and Life Camp junction to the Dei-Dei axis has been completed and is ready for commissioning.

He added that contractors are currently finalising asphalt paving and streetlight installations.

Wike also praised the ongoing work on the Airport Road to Kuje highway being executed by Arab Contractors, describing it as a strong example of infrastructural transformation.

The minister further commended the Kuje to Gwagwalada Road project being handled by Gilmor, noting that the road has significantly changed the landscape of the Kuje area.

Speaking on the City Gate remodeling project, Wike specifically credited Oluremi Tinubu for initiating the idea.

“This is what you have when you have a good woman who means well for the administration of her husband. I am talking about the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu,” he said.

“This is her brainchild. I am sure she will be happy with what she has seen.”

He also praised Julius Berger for the quality of work delivered on the project.

According to Wike, the renovated City Gate will dramatically improve the visual experience for residents and visitors entering Abuja, especially at night.
