President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday held a closed door meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street during his official visit to the United Kingdom.

The meeting took place behind closed doors and both leaders did not speak to the press afterward. When asked about the outcome, Tinubu simply described the discussion as “very good”.

Visit Expected To Strengthen Nigeria UK Relations

The visit is expected to improve diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

According to officials, the talks focused on trade, investment, defence cooperation, and cultural partnerships between both countries.

The visit will also include the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

£746 Million Deal For Nigerian Ports

A major highlight of the visit is the signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Finance.

The deal is expected to support the rehabilitation of major port facilities, including the Lagos Port Complex and the Tin Can Island Port Complex.

Officials said the project will help improve maritime infrastructure and boost trade activities in Nigeria.

Presidency Confirms Key Agreement

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the agreement is described as a landmark partnership that will strengthen economic cooperation between both countries.

The government said the upgrade of port facilities is part of efforts to modernize Nigeria’s transport and logistics sector and attract more international investment.
