Tinubu Nominates Lamido Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The nomination was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Appointment Based On CBN Act

According to the statement, the nomination follows Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which gives the President the power to appoint the CBN governor and deputy governors, pending Senate approval.

The nomination comes after former Deputy Governor Bala Bello was recently appointed Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

President Tinubu urged Yuguda to serve with professionalism and dedication to strengthen Nigeria’s economic stability.

Former SEC Director General

Before the nomination, Yuguda served as Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission Nigeria from 2020 to 2024.

He studied Accountancy at Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1983.

He later earned a master’s degree in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham in 1991.

Long Career In CBN And IMF

Yuguda started his career at the Central Bank in 1984 as a supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department.

He later worked with the International Monetary Fund between 1997 and 2001 before returning to the CBN.

He rose to become Director of Reserve Management and retired in 2016 after many years of service.

He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
