The United States Mission Nigeria has announced the temporary closure of its embassy in Abuja following fears of possible protests around the area.
The announcement was made on Thursday through a public notice shared on the Mission’s official social media channels, informing Nigerians and visa applicants about the sudden shutdown of routine embassy operations.
According to the notice, the Embassy of the United States in Abuja will remain closed for regular activities until Monday, March 9, 2026, as a precautionary measure.
Visa and Citizen Service Appointments Rescheduled
The closure has affected several scheduled appointments, particularly visa interviews and services meant for American citizens in Nigeria.
Officials confirmed that:
- Visa appointments originally scheduled for March 4 and March 5 have been postponed.
- American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments planned for March 5 have also been rescheduled.
Affected applicants are advised to check their email inbox or AVITS account for updated appointment dates.
For those who do not receive a new schedule, the embassy recommends contacting support through the Visa Navigator platform.
