Nigerian Army Denies Garus Gololo Ever Served As Army General

Share f X W in

The Nigerian Army has denied reports describing Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, as a retired general in the Nigerian Army.

In a statement released on Tuesday through its official social media platforms, the Army described the claims as false and misleading.

The clarification followed reports published by some media outlets alleging that a retired Nigerian Army general had been arrested in Abuja after criticising Godswill Akpabio over comments relating to the 2027 elections.

Reacting to the reports, the Army stated that Gololo has never served in the Nigerian Army either as a serving officer or retired personnel.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to categorically state that the said individual is neither a serving nor retired personnel of the Nigerian Army and has never at any time served in the Nigerian Army in any capacity whatsoever,” the statement read.

According to the Army, portraying Gololo as a retired general is capable of misleading the public and creating false impressions.

“Accordingly, the portrayal of the individual as a retired General of the Nigerian Army is false, misleading, and capable of creating wrong impressions in the minds of the public,” it added.

The military also urged media organisations to verify information properly before publication, stressing the importance of professionalism, fairness and accuracy in reporting matters concerning the Armed Forces and national institutions.

The Army further called on media platforms responsible for the reports to issue corrections in order to prevent misinformation that could undermine public trust and institutional credibility.

It reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity in line with its constitutional duties.
